Shift Leader - job description

Primary Objective:

The Shift Leader provides friendly, professional, efficient, and courteous customer service to our customers during their tanning experience, while ensuring the environment is clean and well-maintained.


Customer Service Responsibilities:

  • Greet every customer promptly and courteously.

  • Say goodbye to every customer with a “farewell affirmation”. 

  • Provide above-and-beyond service to ensure every customer’s experience is worth remembering.

  • Ensure customers are happy from the moment they step into the salon until they leave.

  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries, questions and special requests.

  • Handle and resolve customer complaints promptly and with courtesy.

  • Direct unresolved customer inquiries, problems or special requests to the manager.

  • Build and maintain personal, yet professional, relationships with customers.

  • Manage customer accounts and ensure data integrity of customer forms, packages, and personal info.


Tanning Consultation and Sales Responsibilities:

  • Educate customers on the importance of sensible and moderate exposure to UV light.

  • Identify customer skin-types and recommend UV exposure times.

  • Establish trust and rapport with customers as a natural path to boost sales and commissions.

  • Use sales skills to suggest products and services that ensure both customer needs and sales goals are met.

  • Collect payments for products and services.

  • Complete opening and closing cash register procedures, including: counting money and receipts, balancing the register, and depositing money in safe.


Housekeeping Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the highest cleaning and sanitation standards.

  • Immediately clean and prepare tanning rooms for customers after every use.

  • Maintain store’s cleanliness, including: lobby, front desk area, hallway, vanity area and bathroom. 

  • Complete assigned cleaning tasks from cleaning lists.

  • Restock housekeeping and guest supplies.


Miscellaneous Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

  • Identify and initiate opportunities to improve salon and work environment.

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Desire to learn about indoor tanning.

  • Ability to bend, lift, and be standing or walking all day.


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma, general education degree or equivalent.

  • Minimum 2 year work experience in a service/retail/hospitality industry.

  • Tanning salon work experience not required.

  • Computer literate (Windows, Word, Internet Explorer).
